I am a LPN nurse, and the last two years I actually became a travel nurse. When I went to sign up for insurance, I used the Marketplace. It was pretty easy and quick. I chose Aetna CVS Health because before I became a nurse, I actually worked at CVS Pharmacy for three years. And I already get my medicine there, so I was like, perfect.
On the way from the airport in Houston, Texas, I had a flat tire. So we pulled off of the highway. A drunk driver who had a truck slammed into the back of my car and then his car hit me. I blacked out on impact and then I woke up in the hospital.
I had a trauma team of many doctors; I think like seven. When I first opened my eyes, he says, "Hey, you were hit by a car, they found you underneath the car." And then all the pain and everything like rushed in.
I had a broken nose, four broken ribs on the right side, a broken lower left lumbar disc, a broken tailbone, a broken pubic bone, and three fractures throughout the pelvis. Also, I had a deep cut on the back of my head and then the cut on my face. I woke up from being able to use all my body parts and then losing more than 50% of your functions overnight.
Being in Texas with no immediate family or friends was definitely the hardest part. It definitely took a toll on my mental health for sure.

Aetna CVS Health sent a social worker to see me in person to see what I needed because I wasn't at home. Her name is Ms. Pamela. They had resources like used medical equipment. I needed some counseling. She actually did give me a list of food pantries and if I needed help getting to and from the hospital or even to help pay rent or utilities.
Amy, who was my case manager, she was really like my smartphone in my pocket. Like, any questions that I had or just anything, she was very attentive and just really made everything easy. She stayed with me to make sure that when I got back home, I had the doctors that I needed, that they were available. I was able to get in, make sure that my insurance was accepted. She was my mom when my mom wasn't there.

Being back home was pretty great and just like being around your people. It was a great feeling, a lot of love and food.
Going from not being able to move my limbs and actually being able to move them, it's looking pretty good. I have to build up the stamina and the strength. One of the big things is making sure I get my right leg moving, so I try to do walks. I usually take the dogs on a walk in the morning. I'm looking forward to getting back to work and helping others.

I do actually want to send a handwritten letter to my team with Aetna CVS Health, just another thank you. I don't think I necessarily signed up to have this experience, but it was just because they cared in the situation that they wanted to give me a good experience and help me heal and get through the process.
When I think of Aetna CVS Health, I think of family, and support, and love, and happiness. And I mattered, and I was a person versus a number.
